Clinically significant methemoglobinemia in children has been rarely reported. High doses of prilocaine may increase methemoglobin. In 3-month-old infants, 125mg of prilocaine,
when applied topically for 5 hours, resulted in moderate methemoglobinemia. Lidocaine at
8.6 to 172mg/kg caused severe poisoning in infants.
